A heavily productive bush with large berries of excellent flavor. Produces excellent flavored juice. Selected by famed horticulturist and garden writer Lewis Hill in Vermont, who selected this plant as his favorite out of many seedlings from Kiev, Ukraine. A seedling selection from the Ukrainian cultivar ‘Cheryeshnava’. Delicious, bold, black currant flavor! Easy to grow small bush produces clusters of medium-sized, flavorful currants on this compact, upright bush. Lovely, fragrant, yellow spring flowers. Black currant berries, extremely popular in Germany and much of Europe, are very high in vitamin C and can be eaten fresh, but are traditionally utilized in very popular preserves and juices, and sometimes wine. Black currants tolerate light shade, and in very hot summer areas should be planted in partial shade or 1/2 day sun areas only. They are being grown successfully in the Midwest and Ontario under fruit and nut trees. Cold-hardy. Ripens in June or July. Self-pollinating. CANNOT SHIP TO CA, OR

Uses: Fresh eating, juice, excellent jams, wine.
Disease Resistance: Generally easy to grow and with few problems. Mildew on the leaves can be an issue if airflow is poor.

Site Requirements: Well-drained, rich soil. Full sun in northern locations, partial shade or 1/2 day full sun in southern locations. Not for intensely hot summer areas or Deep South growing. Does well in Midwest, PNW, and Northern areas.
