A winner for northern and short seasons! Very cold hardy, extra productive and very early ripening. These qualities make 'Florea' one of the best choices for cold and short-Summer areas. Popular in the New England fig growing areas. In our trials it has been one the best performers for production and quality in our marginal fig growing region, producing good, tasty figs from August till November - outproduces any other cultivar in our 10+ year high tunnel trial. The early ripening helps ensure figs ripen well before frost even in short summer areas. If you live in the North and want figs, this one could be a great pick for you. Has a small eye so seems to resist souring. Fruit quality improves and figs get larger as the tree matures, eventually getting fairly large, bigger than 'Chicago Hardy'.. If you enjoy growing cold hardy figs and are looking for new varieties to grow, check out 'Florea'!
