Want to start a champion grove?  Plant our Ultra Select pawpaw trees. Pawpaws are our specialty and we're now famous all over the world for our premier quality genetics and trees.

Only the world's most premium pawpaw genetics go into our Ultra-Select Pawpaw line. We source our seed from carefully selected superior fruits often weighing in at least 1/4 - 1+ lb with excellent taste and texture. The genetics of our seeds are mostly derived from high quality named cultivars including Peterson, Lehman, Cothron, KSU advanced selections and KSU cultivars and represent the highest grade pawpaw genetics in the world derived from the heart of pawpaw country. 

Genetics matter. Pawpaws exhibit characteristics similar to the parent tree, therefore excellent pawpaws have a high likelihood of creating excellent offspring. We have seen this in action since planting our first Ultra Select pawpaw seeds in 2014, as have many of our customers. That being said, low quality or random wild genetics like other nurseries sell always produce mediocre or poor quality pawpaws. Don't risk years of investment if your goal is excellent, productive trees and high quality fruit. Our Ultra Select trees absolutely contain some of the very best genetics in the world and many will become future champion trees! 

We start all of our Ultra-Select seed in our nursery-blended, rich, organic potting mix and grow them for several seasons. We only sell the most robust specimens with excellent root systems.  We cull the weaklings and those with apparent foliar disease susceptibility. 

Pollination needs are covered when you buy 2 or more seedling trees as they will all pollinate each other. You must have at least 2 genetically different pawpaw trees present in order to get fruit set, and ALL of our seedlings are genetically different from each other.

Our Ultra-Select seedlings should begin to bear fruit in about 4-5 years from planting, under good growing conditions (decent soil, organic fertilizer, irrigation as needed, tree protection, mulch, etc.) Detailed planting instructions are delivered via email.

Uses: Excellent fresh eating, and also make amazing ice cream, pies, breads, sauces, etc. Reforestation, wildlife and butterfly restoration (Zebra swallowtail).  Marketing as a lucrative modern cash crop is very viable. 

Resistant to: Pawpaws are generally very resistant to insects and diseases, especially in well drained and sunny backyard conditions.  In rural settings insects and disease can present issues but are usually not major.

Site Selection: Pawpaws need well-drained soil and cannot handle wet or swampy conditions. The soil should be slightly acidic or neutral. They. should not be planted in low lying frost pocket areas. The do best in full sun and will get much more fruit than when grown in the shade.  Plant them at least 6-12 feet apart, but not further than that. Pollination:You must have at least 2 genetically different pawpaw trees present in order to get fruit set (all of our Ultra Select pawpaws will cross pollinate each other.) Plant closely together to ensure good pollination prospects (6-12' apart).

Size at Maturity: If not pruned they can eventually get about 18-20 tall and wide. We recommend pruning to 8-10 feet tall to make harvesting easier. They can be kept just about any size over 8ft.
