Only the very best of the best pawpaw genetics go into our Ultra-Select line of pawpaw trees. Our seed source is a local grafted pawpaw orchard of cultivated and named fruits of the finest eating quality and massive size. Many of these are derived from Susquehanna and Sunflower parentage and other premium cultivars.
Plant a future champion! Only the very best of the best genetics go into our Ultra-Select pawpaw trees. Our genetics represent the finest quality in pawpaws; combining delicious flavor, low seed weight, and huge size, mostly from Peterson and KSU advanced selections as well as KSU cultivars, and Lehman stock. These trees therefore represent the best pawpaw genetics in the world.
You need at least 2 pawpaw trees for cross pollination in order to get fruit. See also our BUNDLES
Pawpaws tend to come 'very similar' to the parents, so therefore excellent pawpaws usually produce excellent offspring similar to the parents. That being said, low quality or random wild genetics being sold at most other nurseries usually produce mediocre or poor quality pawpaws. Don't risk it if you want excellent trees! These trees absolutely contain some of the very best genetics in the world and many will become champion trees! "You have the healthiest saplings I have seen anywhere."- Woody Walker, famous pawpaw breeder
See the photo of our Ultra-Select fruit (top) versus a typical wild pawpaw (below). Notice the dramatic difference in fruit flesh versus seed matter per fruit, as well as the huge difference in size as well as appetizing appearance. Flavor difference is much superior in our Ultra-Select line versus typical wild fruits. There really is no comparison! Plant a future champion today!
This is a SINGLE 2-Year-old seedling tree.
Our Ultra-Select seedlings should begin to bear fruit in about 4-5 years from planting, under good growing conditions (average to fertile soil, annual organic fertilizer, irrigation as needed, mulch and weed control, tree protection, etc.) Detailed planting instructions are included.
See our Pawpaw FAQ for much more information: http://peaceful.local/pawpaw-frequently-asked-questions/
No synthetic fertilizers or pesticides are used on our trees.
Pollination: Any other Ultra-Select seedling pawpaw or any other grafted cultivar or seedling pawpaw tree will pollinate this tree. For good pollination, plant trees 8-15 ft away from each other only. Pawpaws are not male and female, but rather have "male and female" flower parts on each flower. Every tree is capable of bearing fruit if pollinated well with pollen from another genetically different pawpaw tree. Hand pollination results in heaviest fruit set.
Resistant to: Pawpaws are generally remarkably disease and insect resistant. See our pawpaw growing article for full information.
Site requirements: Full sun location for best fruit production. Pawpaws will grow in shade but produce much less fruit. Pawpaws tolerate a range of soil types provided the planting location is well drained and there is heavy mulch and plenty of fertilizer and water. Protected locations, such as on the South, East or West side of a building is ideal on very windy sites and is recommended. Pawpaws cannot handle wet or swampy conditions.
Size at maturity: 15-20' tall and wide, depending on location, care and pruning to reduce height. We recommend heading them at about 8-10" and removing suckers via a mowing around the trees, both of which keep the trees very manageable and small.
Hardiness: USDA zones 5-9. (Estimate)
Plant size: Approximately 24"- 36" tall with an excellent root system in 9 inch tree pot. 1 Potted 2 YR Tree.
Shipped March-October
USDA zones 5-9
