Eat this non-astringent Asian persimmon firm like an apple! Very enjoyable, mild persimmon flavor. Dehydrates extremely well into a wonderful dried fruit snack. The fruits are huge, around orange-tangerine size. This persimmon is not very cold hardy and is for zone 7 and higher, only. Not cold hardy in zone 5 or 6. Some have success growing these in KY by protecting the trunk in the winter time but not guaranteed. In warmer parts of Maryland (zone 7), warmer areas of Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia and Deep South areas this persimmon thrives, all the way down to Florida where they are now a small commercial fruit crop, especially around Gainesville. CANNOT SHIP TO AZ, CA.
A wonderful and trouble-free orchard addition. Has almost zero problems with disease, insects or animals. Easy and fast-growing. Starts producing fruit in only about 2-3 years from planting! The trees are stunning in autumn with red leaves and covered in bright orange fruits.
