New, excellent blackberry has very high yields of fruit and exceptional sweetness. Von is the first thornless blackberry released from North Carolina State University. Sweeter than older thornless cultivars. Mid to late season production. Von has large fruit and excellent quality that is sweet and a favorite to many. One of the favorite qualities of Von is its small seed size. Von produces high yields of berries for a duration of six weeks. The fruit is consistent from year to year. The average fruit yields per plant were around 26 pounds once the vine reached full maturity. Von is cold hardy down to -12 degrees (zone 6)
Strong growth, vigorous and completely thorn-free! Productive and high quality berries for home or market. Berries are sweet, have small seeds and low acidity. Initial results show better tolerance to wet conditions than other varieties. Suggested for growers in southern regions. Von is named in honor of Mr. Von Harvey Underwood, who worked in the fruit breeding programs at North Carolina State University for over 44 years.
